Mechanical problems and instability of the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joints cause pressure and irritation of the sciatic nerve that can lead to symptoms such as numbness, pain and tingling that radiates down the back of the leg.
Trauma and degeneration can cause cracks within the weakened areas of the spinal discs. As this happens, the jelly-like material of the center of the disc will leak out and irritate the surrounding areas. Pinching, numbness, and pressure can occur as the disc balloons out and pinches the nearby nerves.
Many people who frequently feel “uneven hips” or experience pain after walking have problems with their sacroiliac joints. Instability to the ligaments that support these ligaments can cause muscles to become overworked and spasms, leaving many people to always feel stiffness and soreness in their lower back.
Degeneration to the cartilage within the joints of the spine can cause bones to rub together and lead to pain that is focused in the lower back.
