OVERVIEW

ABOUT CARPAL TUNNEL INJECTIONS

Carpal tunnel problems can make your hands feel unreliable in ways that catch you off guard. Maybe your fingers fall asleep when you’re cooking. Maybe holding a phone sets off a buzzing feeling. Maybe typing feels fine one minute and then strange the next. Some people deal with grip weakness. Others feel a sharp pull through the wrist when they bend it. These issues build slowly until you realize how much they interfere with normal tasks.

At our Gilbert clinic, we use carpal tunnel injections to calm the swelling around the median nerve. When that space opens up again, the symptoms often ease. Before we suggest anything, we look at the way your wrist moves, how your fingers respond, and what motions set off the discomfort.

BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

To schedule, call our office at Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Gilbert, AZ, or send a request online. Someone will walk you through what the visit looks like and what you need to know beforehand.

Most injections happen in a single visit. Some people return in a few weeks so we can see how things changed or if you need extra support.

DIAGNOSE

EXAM & IMAGING

We look at the small details. How far your wrist bends. Whether numbness shows up with certain positions. How tight the nerve feels during simple testing. These things help confirm whether the median nerve is the real source of your symptoms.

TREATMENTS

CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM

The injection goes into the irritated area in the wrist. It’s a quick process. Most patients describe it as a pinch followed by pressure. Afterward, we explain what to expect the rest of the day. Many people feel relief quickly. Others notice it slowly, over the next week or so.

FOLLOW UP

WE CALL TO CHECK IN

Follow-ups give us a chance to see what changed. We adjust your plan based on those updates. If your wrist needs strengthening or if nerve-gliding work will help keep symptoms away, we add it then.

This is our go to place for all physical therapy! We have been coming here for at least 3 years now for my daughter’s sports injuries from dance. They also do imaging so it is a 1 stop clinic. We have been very pleased with the results but what’s set them apart is the staff. They take their time to explain everything to you, take their time with the therapy and treat you like family. We highly recommend them to everyone we know!

Anyone looking for a PT team look no further. I had an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) surgery mid-September. Physical Therapy was recommended after week 4 post surgery. My journey to find the right fit began and ended at Modern Physical Therapy in Gilbert. I was looking for a ‘team’ that would partner with me so I would receive the best, safest and most effective care/results possible knowing that my recovery would not be easy or a quick fix. My treatments began the beginning of October with Ben and Drey who are great listeners, are extremely accomplished with all types of needs and have been an amazing part of my team. Equally as important are the girls who are at the front desk. The girls are first to welcome you, accommodate your schedules while making appts, and answer any questions you may have with insurance etc. I highly recommend Modern PT and their entire team!!

Modern PT is excellent. They are very supportive and really do a good job with therapy. The whole staff is very kind. They take 1 hour and run on time which I really like. I appreciate their treatments. I feel much better after a hard surgery.

What Are You Experiencing?

Most people don’t come in knowing exactly what treatment they need. What they do know is that something hurts. That’s all we need to start. Fill out this quick form and just tell us how your pain feels. Once we read through it, we’ll give you a call to talk about what might be causing it and what we can do to help.

  LOW  HIGH

SEVERE PAIN

If your pain feels unbearable or you can’t think straight, please don’t wait; call 911 or head to the hospital right away. Get the urgent care first. Once you’re safe, we’ll be here to help with the next steps.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

This is the kind of pain that doesn’t stop you completely, but it makes every day harder. Maybe it’s sharp. Maybe it’s dull and won’t let up. Write down what it feels like. We’ll go over it with you and start figuring out what’s behind it.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Even the small stuff matters. A stiff back in the morning, sore joints after work, or little aches that keep showing up are all worth paying attention to. Tell us what you’ve been noticing, and we’ll help you stay on top of it before it gets worse.

Answering Your Questions

What symptoms tend to settle after an injection?
Numbness in the fingers. Tingling that comes and goes. A weak grip. Burning or aching in the palm. Waking up at night because your hand feels “asleep.” These are common changes people notice.
Why does carpal tunnel creep up so slowly?
Small habits pile up. Wrist position at work. Hours of typing. Long days holding tools. The nerve gets irritated a little at a time until you finally feel it with everything you do.
Do I need to take time off after the injection?
Most don’t. If your job involves a lot of gripping, we might recommend easing into things for a day so the area can settle.
What if the symptoms return?
Sometimes they do. That doesn’t mean the injection didn’t help. It can mean the nerve still needs support from strengthening or mobility work. We show you the next steps so the issue doesn’t keep cycling.
Is imaging needed first?
Not always. We often diagnose carpal tunnel through physical testing and symptom patterns. If imaging is needed, we explain why before anything happens.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
