OVERVIEW
TMJ pain often sneaks up. A click when you yawn. Tightness after tough food. Then symptoms stick around. Talking or smiling starts to hurt. The joint near your ear feels sore. Your neck tightens. Many people in Gilbert deal with this from stress, desk work, or clenching. Our physical therapy calms the joint, relaxes muscles, and restores smooth jaw motion. We track opening range in millimeters, shift on opening, and pain scores. Clear numbers guide progress.
BOOKING APPOINTMENTS
Call to set a time, or use the online form. We keep scheduling simple. Before the first visit, we explain the plan so there are no surprises. Arrive in comfortable clothes. Bring a list of meds, recent dental work, and any night guard. We handle the rest.

TMJ pain improves with steady care. Most people start with two to three visits per week. After a few sessions, motion improves and pain eases. A typical plan runs four to eight weeks. Your plan depends on the duration of symptoms and response to treatment. We adjust as you progress and as flare patterns change.
DIAGNOSE
EXAM & IMAGING
We focus on the source. We map pain, onset, and triggers. We measure opening in millimeters and note clicks or side shift. We screen neck and shoulders. Then we explain the findings and your plan.
TREATMENTS
CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM
We keep treatment calm and precise. Soft tissue release for masseter, pterygoid, and temporalis. Gentle joint glides to restore motion. Short home stretches to repeat daily. Jaw rest position, heat for tightness, and anti-clenching cues. Posture, stress skills, nasal breathing, and mirror drills for symmetry. If a night guard fits poorly, we coordinate with your dentist.
FOLLOW UP
WE CALL TO CHECK IN
Follow ups fine tune the plan. Each visit, we retest motion and pain. We update stretches and add control or strength work as needed. One week targets mobility. Another targets stability and endurance. We phase in light chewing challenges to match daily life. As mechanics improve, pain fades and daily function returns.

This is our go to place for all physical therapy! We have been coming here for at least 3 years now for my daughter’s sports injuries from dance. They also do imaging so it is a 1 stop clinic. We have been very pleased with the results but what’s set them apart is the staff. They take their time to explain everything to you, take their time with the therapy and treat you like family. We highly recommend them to everyone we know!

Anyone looking for a PT team look no further. I had an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) surgery mid-September. Physical Therapy was recommended after week 4 post surgery. My journey to find the right fit began and ended at Modern Physical Therapy in Gilbert. I was looking for a ‘team’ that would partner with me so I would receive the best, safest and most effective care/results possible knowing that my recovery would not be easy or a quick fix. My treatments began the beginning of October with Ben and Drey who are great listeners, are extremely accomplished with all types of needs and have been an amazing part of my team. Equally as important are the girls who are at the front desk. The girls are first to welcome you, accommodate your schedules while making appts, and answer any questions you may have with insurance etc. I highly recommend Modern PT and their entire team!!

Modern PT is excellent. They are very supportive and really do a good job with therapy. The whole staff is very kind. They take 1 hour and run on time which I really like. I appreciate their treatments. I feel much better after a hard surgery.

What Are You Experiencing?
Most people don’t come in knowing exactly what treatment they need. What they do know is that something hurts. That’s all we need to start. Fill out this quick form and just tell us how your pain feels. Once we read through it, we’ll give you a call to talk about what might be causing it and what we can do to help.
LOW HIGH
SEVERE PAIN
If your pain feels unbearable or you can’t think straight, please don’t wait; call 911 or head to the hospital right away. Get the urgent care first. Once you’re safe, we’ll be here to help with the next steps.
MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT
This is the kind of pain that doesn’t stop you completely, but it makes every day harder. Maybe it’s sharp. Maybe it’s dull and won’t let up. Write down what it feels like. We’ll go over it with you and start figuring out what’s behind it.
MINOR PAINS & ACHES
Even the small stuff matters. A stiff back in the morning, sore joints after work, or little aches that keep showing up are all worth paying attention to. Tell us what you’ve been noticing, and we’ll help you stay on top of it before it gets worse.

Answering Your Questions
What does TMJ therapy feel like?
Sessions feel controlled and calm. Expect light pressure and slow stretches. Mild soreness after early visits is common. Relief grows as muscles release and movement normalizes.
How long until it gets better?
Timing varies by severity and duration. Many notice change after two to three sessions. Steady attendance and daily homework drive lasting results.
Does this help with headaches or ear pressure?
Yes. Jaw muscles link to areas near the head and ears. As irritation drops, headaches and ear fullness often decrease within the first few weeks.
What should I do at home?
Keep teeth apart, lips together, tongue on the roof of your mouth. Use warm compresses during tight spells. Skip hard or chewy food for now. Take brief breaks to relax your jaw and stretch your neck. Sleep on your back with a small pillow under the neck when possible.
"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."
