OVERVIEW

ABOUT TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS

They are used when you have stubborn knots in muscles around the body . People describe them in different ways. A lump that stays sore no matter what. A deep ache that spreads into the shoulder or hip. A cramp that feels like it never switches off. These spots can show up in the neck, shoulders, back, and even the legs. They mess with sleep. They make moving awkward. A lot of the time, patients say stretching or massage helps for a short while, then the tightness comes right back. At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Gilbert, AZ, injections are one option for breaking the cycle. A thin needle delivers medicine right into the knot. The muscle might jump, then release. For some, relief is immediate. For others, it builds over the next day or two. Lasting change usually happens when injections are combined with therapy or exercises, so the body learns to move without locking up again.

BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

Appointments are simple to set up. Call the Gilbert clinic or book online. Our staff explain the basics, answer questions, and make sure you know what to expect at the first visit.

It usually takes more than one treatment. At Gilbert, injections are often scheduled weekly or every couple of weeks, so progress builds steadily.

DIAGNOSE

EXAM & IMAGING

The first visit is about evaluation. The therapist feels for knots, checks the range of motion, and decides if injections are the right fit for you.

TREATMENTS

CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM

Treatment itself is quick. A fine needle with a small amount of medication is placed into the knot. Some patients notice the release immediately, others over the next few days.

FOLLOW UP

WE CALL TO CHECK IN

Follow-up appointments are important. They give the therapist a chance to see how you responded, change the plan if needed, and add stretches or strengthening to support long-term results.

This is our go to place for all physical therapy! We have been coming here for at least 3 years now for my daughter’s sports injuries from dance. They also do imaging so it is a 1 stop clinic. We have been very pleased with the results but what’s set them apart is the staff. They take their time to explain everything to you, take their time with the therapy and treat you like family. We highly recommend them to everyone we know!

Anyone looking for a PT team look no further. I had an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) surgery mid-September. Physical Therapy was recommended after week 4 post surgery. My journey to find the right fit began and ended at Modern Physical Therapy in Gilbert. I was looking for a ‘team’ that would partner with me so I would receive the best, safest and most effective care/results possible knowing that my recovery would not be easy or a quick fix. My treatments began the beginning of October with Ben and Drey who are great listeners, are extremely accomplished with all types of needs and have been an amazing part of my team. Equally as important are the girls who are at the front desk. The girls are first to welcome you, accommodate your schedules while making appts, and answer any questions you may have with insurance etc. I highly recommend Modern PT and their entire team!!

Modern PT is excellent. They are very supportive and really do a good job with therapy. The whole staff is very kind. They take 1 hour and run on time which I really like. I appreciate their treatments. I feel much better after a hard surgery.

What Are You Experiencing?

Most people don’t come in knowing exactly what treatment they need. What they do know is that something hurts. That’s all we need to start. Fill out this quick form and just tell us how your pain feels. Once we read through it, we’ll give you a call to talk about what might be causing it and what we can do to help.

SEVERE PAIN

If your pain feels unbearable or you can’t think straight, please don’t wait; call 911 or head to the hospital right away. Get the urgent care first. Once you’re safe, we’ll be here to help with the next steps.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

This is the kind of pain that doesn’t stop you completely, but it makes every day harder. Maybe it’s sharp. Maybe it’s dull and won’t let up. Write down what it feels like. We’ll go over it with you and start figuring out what’s behind it.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Even the small stuff matters. A stiff back in the morning, sore joints after work, or little aches that keep showing up are all worth paying attention to. Tell us what you’ve been noticing, and we’ll help you stay on top of it before it gets worse.

Answering Your Questions

What kinds of knots are treated with trigger point injections?

Stiff or sensitive knots, sharp or sore pains, or limitation in movement. At Gilbert, patients most commonly pinpoint their worst places as their shoulders, lower back, or hips.

Should daily activity be prevented when an injection is given?

Most patients are in their routine again right away. Mild soreness is common, like when you exercise. On clinic visits, therapists will tell you what you should not do for a certain amount of time.

For how long are results retained?

It depends. Some are relieved for weeks, while some need repeat treatments. Results are strengthened when injections are supplemented with therapy or a program at home.

What does it feel like?

Most experience a stinging sensation for a second or so, and then pressure. Tenderness may persist for a day but clears within a few days. Increased movement seems to balance out the temporary soreness.

Is this therapy safe in elderly patients?

Yes. The treatment uses a very fine needle as well as a tiny dose of medicine. At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Gilbert, AZ, treatment is personalized so it is safe even for the elderly or those with or without chronic health problems.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
