OVERVIEW
The thing about carpal tunnel is that it announces itself in small ways first, and most people ignore every one of them. A hand that falls asleep on a long drive. Fingers that go buzzy while you're holding a book. Waking up and having to shake the feeling back into your hand. None of it seems worth a doctor's visit until it stops going away.
What's behind all of it is a squeezed nerve. On the palm side of your wrist, there's a narrow channel, and a major nerve runs through it on its way into your hand, sharing the space with the tendons that curl your fingers. Crowd that channel, and the nerve gets pinched. You feel that as tingling, numbness, and a grip that fumbles, and it lands specifically in the thumb, index, and middle fingers.
The nights are usually worst because most of us sleep with the wrist bent, which tightens that channel even further. The encouraging part is that caught early, most carpal tunnel settles without surgery. At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Goodyear, AZ, we work on getting the pressure off that nerve before it comes to that.

Office was very welcoming from the moment you walked into the office, Marissa and Kelsey were there to greet me. They know all of their patients and treat them like family. Dr. Dault was AMAZING. SHE listened and really searched to find the answers to my pain. Eric was very thorough when doing my ultrasound to diagnose my issue. Their recommendations helped me and in the end my pain decreased! Thank you to the entire team!

I was in a pretty dark place before starting at the Chandler location. My low back pain was completely debilitating and affecting the quality of my life for many years. I saw Phil once a week for 6 weeks and feel stronger and more confident than I have in many, many years. Phil explained the results of my MRI in great detail and answered my questions (as trivial as they might have been) with respect and understanding... I have been to many physical therapists before and the results I got here were the best. I highly recommend the Chandler location and will go back again if I ever need to!

Where do I start with the praise for this Team of miracle workers... I had suffered from chronic lower back pain for the last 8 years due to 32 years of golf and upper back pain due to 13 years of sitting at a desk. I utilized a chiropractor for the past 7 years but the pain ALWAYS came back and I NEVER got better. One visit with Dr. Josh and two X-rays showed the problem was stemming from my foot and a collapsing arch—which my previous chiropractor NEVER took the time to explore and diagnose.

What Are You Experiencing?
Pain is difficult to articulate, and you don’t need to have the “right” words. Just tell us how you have been feeling it. Use the brief form to tell us in your own words like sharp, dull, or won’t stop. We will then contact you so that we can talk a little bit about what might be happening and how we may be able to help.
LOW HIGH
SEVERE PAIN
If the pain is intolerable, don’t wait. Call 911 or go straight to the hospital. Safety is foremost. Then, after addressing that, we’ll be able to assist you in the next steps toward comfort.
MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT
This kind of pain is not going to keep you from doing things, but it makes daily life difficult. Maybe it hits in bursts, maybe it is always there. Describe it as best you can. That’s all we need in order to start to understand what is happening.
MINOR PAINS & ACHES
Even small aches matter. That morning stiffness in your lower back, muscle aches in your legs after a day, or that pesky spot you’ve been ignoring. Those are things we want to talk about. Tell us what you’ve been feeling, and we’ll do our best to get ahead of it.

Answering Your Questions
Why do my fingers go numb at night and not during the day?
Because of how you sleep. Almost everybody curls their wrists under while they're out, and that folds the channel shut a little more and squeezes the nerve harder. It's the single most common thing people describe, and a splint that holds the wrist straight overnight often fixes it fast.
Can I get better without surgery?
A lot of people can, especially catching it early or while it's still mild to moderate. Splinting, some habit changes, and nerve gliding settle plenty of cases. Surgery is generally held back for when the gentle stuff has had a real shot and hasn't been enough.
Is a drugstore wrist brace good enough?
It might take the edge off, but the angle it holds your wrist at is what really counts. Some of them keep the wrist slightly bent, which misses the whole point. We make sure yours holds it neutral, because that's what actually takes the pressure off the nerve.
Could this be coming from my neck instead?
It happens. A pinched nerve up in the neck or an irritated one at the elbow can feel a lot like carpal tunnel, and those need completely different treatment. Carpal tunnel has its own pattern in the thumb-side fingers, so we confirm where it's really coming from before treating anything.
What happens if I keep putting it off?
Some cases just hold steady for years. Others creep along. Let it go too long and the nerve can take damage that doesn't fully come back, and the muscle at the base of your thumb can start to shrink. That's much harder to reverse than to prevent, so earlier is genuinely better here.
