ABOUT CARPAL TUNNEL INJECTIONS

At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Peoria, AZ, we see a lot of people who feel like their hands are slipping out of their control. Carpal tunnel injections help calm the swelling inside the tight space where the median nerve sits. When that space gets irritated, the nerve reacts. The injection gives it room again. We take time to look at what motions set you off, how long it’s been happening, and how the symptoms show up in your routine. If an injection is the right call, we explain the steps so you’re not guessing your way through anything.

We check how your fingers move, how the wrist bends, and whether the nerve feels tight or irritated when we test it. Sometimes the symptoms are obvious. Sometimes they hide behind other motions. We look for the pattern before we recommend anything.

TREATMENTS

CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM

The injection goes into the area that’s squeezing the nerve. It’s quick. Most people say it feels strange for a moment and then it’s done. Afterward, we talk through what to expect over the next day or two.

If the pain is severe such that you are unable to deal, don’t wait. Call 911 or go straight to a hospital. Safety is essential, no matter what. That initial action, after which we are able to lend a hand in helping you find longer-term relief.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

Sometimes, pain will keep you from being brought to your knees, but it does disrupt your ability to function in daily life. Perhaps it’s intermittent and stabbing, or maybe it’s just present during the day. Let’s get those details from you, and we’ll do our best to determine what’s causing it.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Little aches hurt just as badly. A sore shoulder, stiff knees, or a throbbing ache that shows itself every once in a while can still have its toll. Let us know how you’ve been doing, and we’ll take care of it for you before it grows into something bigger.

What symptoms tend to improve with injections?

Tingling. Numbness. Weak grip. Burning through the wrist or palm. Waking up at night because the hand feels “asleep.” Many people notice those episodes become less frequent.

Does one injection fix everything?

Sometimes it helps a lot. Sometimes you need therapy afterward to keep the nerve from getting irritated again. It depends on how long the problem has been around and what your daily tasks look like.

Does it hurt?

Most people say it’s more pressure than pain. It’s over fast. We walk you through it so nothing feels sudden or confusing.

Do I still need PT?

Often yes. Therapy helps with wrist strength, better mechanics, and reducing habits that irritate the nerve. It supports the injection instead of letting the problem creep back.

How do I know if surgery is ever needed?

If your strength keeps dropping or the nerve stays irritated despite treatment, we talk through what comes next. Many people never reach that point, especially when they address symptoms early. Our goal is to guide you, not rush you.
