Week 18 Pregnancy

Your Body Is Making Room

This week, baby's hearing is becoming more developed, and those tiny movements are getting stronger—even if you haven't felt them yet.

Your body is adapting too. As pregnancy progresses, hormones continue helping joints and ligaments become more flexible while posture begins shifting to support a growing belly.

For some women, this is when hips or low back begin feeling different. Not broken. Just different.

Baby at Week 18

This week, baby is about the size of a sweet potato and continues growing rapidly. Hearing is becoming more developed, allowing baby to respond to sounds from both inside and outside the womb.

Movements are becoming stronger and more coordinated as muscles, nerves, and the brain continue working together. Some women may begin noticing early flutters of movement, while others will feel them in the coming weeks.

Why You Feel So Different Right Now

Hormones such as relaxin continue supporting flexibility in joints, ligaments, and connective tissues as your body adapts to pregnancy. These changes help prepare your body for growth, but they can also change how movement feels.

As posture shifts and your center of gravity continues adjusting, you may notice mild low back discomfort, hip tightness, or a new awareness of how you sit, stand, and move throughout the day.

These changes do not mean your body is falling apart. They are signs that your body is adapting and making room for what comes next.

Small Things That May Help

If sleep feels less comfortable lately, try side sleeping with support between your knees and under your belly if needed.

Using pillows strategically can help improve comfort, reduce strain on the hips and lower back, and support better rest throughout pregnancy.

Support During Pregnancy

Pregnancy-focused physical therapy is not only for pain. Many women benefit from support with posture, breathing mechanics, movement strategies, pelvic floor awareness, and overall comfort as pregnancy progresses.
