Week 23 Pregnancy

Adaptation Takes Energy

This week, baby continues growing quickly, and the lungs are beginning important development.

At the same time, your body is carrying more weight, more demand, and more responsibility every day.

You may notice increased pressure through your hips, pelvis, or low back—especially after long days, standing, or interrupted sleep. That doesn't mean your body is weak. It means your body is adapting.

Baby at Week 23

This week, baby is about the size of a grapefruit and continues growing steadily. Important lung development is underway as the respiratory system prepares for life after birth, even though there is still plenty of growing to do.

Baby's movements are becoming stronger and more coordinated, and many women are now feeling regular patterns of movement throughout the day.

Why You Feel So Different Right Now

As pregnancy progresses, your body is supporting increasing physical demands. More weight, changing posture, shifting balance, and growing pressure through the pelvis and abdomen all require constant adaptation.

You may notice more pressure through your hips, pelvis, or low back, especially after standing for long periods, busy days, or nights when sleep is interrupted. These experiences are common as your body works to support both you and your growing baby.

Adaptation takes energy, and your body is working hard every day to meet those demands.

Small Things That May Help

When standing for longer periods, try shifting your weight gently from side to side or resting one foot slightly elevated if it feels comfortable.

Small adjustments can help reduce strain, improve comfort, and support your body through the demands of daily activities.

Support During Pregnancy

Pregnancy-focused physical therapy is not only for pain. Many women benefit from support with posture, breathing mechanics, movement strategies, pelvic floor awareness, and overall comfort as pregnancy progresses.
