Week 31 Pregnancy

You Deserve More Than Survival Mode

This week, baby continues growing and putting more pressure on your body from the inside out.

You may notice heaviness, pelvic pressure, leaking, or a sense that movement feels more effortful lately. If so, you're not alone.

As pregnancy progresses, the muscles that support the pelvis and core work differently, and pressure naturally increases.

Baby at Week 31

This week, baby is about the size of a coconut and continues gaining weight, strength, and body fat. Important development continues throughout the brain, lungs, and nervous system as baby prepares for life after birth.

Space inside the uterus is becoming more limited, which can make movements feel stronger, larger, and easier to notice throughout the day.

Why You Feel So Different Right Now

As your baby grows, increasing pressure is placed on the muscles, joints, and tissues that support your abdomen, pelvis, and pelvic floor. These structures continue adapting to meet the growing demands of pregnancy.

You may notice pelvic pressure, heaviness, leaking with coughing or sneezing, or simply feeling like movement requires more effort than it once did. These experiences are common as pregnancy progresses.

While common does not always mean concerning, it also does not mean you simply have to ignore what your body is telling you. Support and strategies are available.

Common During Week 31

Pelvic pressure or heaviness
Leaking with coughing, sneezing, or activity
Increased effort with movement
Low back discomfort
Hip tightness
Difficulty changing positions in bed
Fatigue
Feeling baby move strongly

Small Things That May Help

Take a moment to fully relax your belly and breathing today. Sometimes release—not tightening—is what the body needs most.

Allowing the ribs, abdomen, and pelvic floor to soften during breathing can help reduce tension and improve awareness of how your body is responding to the demands of pregnancy.

Support During Pregnancy

Pregnancy-focused physical therapy is not only for pain. Many women benefit from support with posture, breathing mechanics, movement strategies, pelvic floor awareness, and overall comfort as pregnancy progresses.
