OVERVIEW
ABOUT SCIATICA TREATMENT
Sciatica has a feel unlike other back pain. It shoots, burns, and runs a line of fire from your lower back down through the hip and into the leg, sometimes all the way to the foot. What's happening is that the sciatic nerve, the biggest nerve in your body, is getting pressed on or irritated somewhere along its path, and it hurts down its whole length. Our team starts by finding what's actually crowding the nerve, whether that's a disc in the lower back, tight muscles squeezing it, or stiff joints in the spine. From there, it's a plan to take the pressure off, loosen what's feeding it, and build the support that keeps it calm.
BOOKING APPOINTMENTS
Simple to get started. Call Modern Medicine of Gilbert, AZ, or put in a request through the online form if that's easier for you. Someone on our team finds a time, takes your questions, and walks you through what the first visit looks like.

Sciatica usually takes more than one visit to settle. At our Gilbert clinic, care runs across several weeks, so the nerve calms down at a pace that actually holds.
DIAGNOSE
EXAM & IMAGING
We find what's pressing on the nerve, check which positions ease or worsen it, and look at how you move. That first read aims the plan at the real source.
TREATMENTS
CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM
Care might mean taking pressure off the nerve, hands-on work to loosen what's crowding it, or strengthening at Modern Medicine of Gilbert, AZ. The plan shifts as the nerve settles.

This is our go to place for all physical therapy! We have been coming here for at least 3 years now for my daughter’s sports injuries from dance. They also do imaging so it is a 1 stop clinic. We have been very pleased with the results but what’s set them apart is the staff. They take their time to explain everything to you, take their time with the therapy and treat you like family. We highly recommend them to everyone we know!

Anyone looking for a PT team look no further. I had an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) surgery mid-September. Physical Therapy was recommended after week 4 post surgery. My journey to find the right fit began and ended at Modern Physical Therapy in Gilbert. I was looking for a ‘team’ that would partner with me so I would receive the best, safest and most effective care/results possible knowing that my recovery would not be easy or a quick fix. My treatments began the beginning of October with Ben and Drey who are great listeners, are extremely accomplished with all types of needs and have been an amazing part of my team. Equally as important are the girls who are at the front desk. The girls are first to welcome you, accommodate your schedules while making appts, and answer any questions you may have with insurance etc. I highly recommend Modern PT and their entire team!!

Modern PT is excellent. They are very supportive and really do a good job with therapy. The whole staff is very kind. They take 1 hour and run on time which I really like. I appreciate their treatments. I feel much better after a hard surgery.

What Are You Experiencing?
Most people don’t come in knowing exactly what treatment they need. What they do know is that something hurts. That’s all we need to start. Fill out this quick form and just tell us how your pain feels. Once we read through it, we’ll give you a call to talk about what might be causing it and what we can do to help.
LOW HIGH
SEVERE PAIN
If your pain feels unbearable or you can’t think straight, please don’t wait; call 911 or head to the hospital right away. Get the urgent care first. Once you’re safe, we’ll be here to help with the next steps.
MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT
This is the kind of pain that doesn’t stop you completely, but it makes every day harder. Maybe it’s sharp. Maybe it’s dull and won’t let up. Write down what it feels like. We’ll go over it with you and start figuring out what’s behind it.
MINOR PAINS & ACHES
Even the small stuff matters. A stiff back in the morning, sore joints after work, or little aches that keep showing up are all worth paying attention to. Tell us what you’ve been noticing, and we’ll help you stay on top of it before it gets worse.

Answering Your Questions
Why does my sciatica shoot all the way down my leg?
The sciatic nerve runs from your lower back through the hip and down the leg, so when it's pressed or irritated at the top, the pain travels its whole path. The evaluation at Modern Medicine of Gilbert, AZ, finds where it's actually coming from.
Will sciatica go away on its own?
Some cases ease within a few weeks. Plenty don't, and waiting can let the nerve stay irritated longer than it needs to. Treatment tends to settle it faster and, just as important, addresses what caused it so it doesn't keep coming back.
Should I rest or keep moving with sciatica?
Usually keep moving, within reason. Too much rest tends to stiffen things and can make sciatica worse, not better. Gentle movement in the right direction often helps calm the nerve. The trick is knowing which movements help and which flare it, which is part of what a plan sorts out.
Do I need surgery for sciatica?
Most likely not. The large majority of sciatica settles with non-surgical care, since the nerve is usually irritated rather than damaged. Surgery comes up only for specific cases, like progressing weakness or numbness that isn't improving.
Can sciatica come back after it gets better?
It can, especially if the cause never got addressed. A nerve that keeps getting irritated is often one without enough support around the lower back. That's why treatment includes building up the core and hips, since that support is what keeps the nerve from getting provoked again.
