OVERVIEW

ABOUT TENNIS ELBOW TREATMENT

A sharp ache on the outside of the elbow can turn small tasks into a struggle. Shaking hands, opening a jar, or gripping a coffee mug suddenly hurts in a way it never did before. Tennis elbow develops when the tendons attaching to the outer elbow become irritated from repetitive gripping or wrist motion, whether from a racquet sport, gardening, typing, or manual work. Rest alone rarely fixes it, since the irritated tendon needs guided treatment actually to heal.

BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Tucson, AZ treats tennis elbow with a combination of hands-on therapy, targeted strengthening, and advanced imaging to confirm exactly which tendon is affected. Our team builds a plan around your daily demands, whether you are returning to a sport or just trying to carry groceries without wincing.

Office was very welcoming from the moment you walked into the office, Marissa and Kelsey were there to greet me. They know all of their patients and treat them like family. Dr. Dault was AMAZING. SHE listened and really searched to find the answers to my pain. Eric was very thorough when doing my ultrasound to diagnose my issue. Their recommendations helped me and in the end my pain decreased! Thank you to the entire team!

I was in a pretty dark place before starting at the Chandler location. My low back pain was completely debilitating and affecting the quality of my life for many years. I saw Phil once a week for 6 weeks and feel stronger and more confident than I have in many, many years. Phil explained the results of my MRI in great detail and answered my questions (as trivial as they might have been) with respect and understanding... I have been to many physical therapists before and the results I got here were the best. I highly recommend the Chandler location and will go back again if I ever need to!

Where do I start with the praise for this Team of miracle workers... I had suffered from chronic lower back pain for the last 8 years due to 32 years of golf and upper back pain due to 13 years of sitting at a desk. I utilized a chiropractor for the past 7 years but the pain ALWAYS came back and I NEVER got better. One visit with Dr. Josh and two X-rays showed the problem was stemming from my foot and a collapsing arch—which my previous chiropractor NEVER took the time to explore and diagnose.

Answering Your Questions

What causes tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow comes from repeated strain on the tendons connecting the forearm muscles to the outer elbow. It develops from repetitive gripping or wrist motion, common in racquet sports, but also in gardening, painting, plumbing, and desk work involving a mouse or keyboard.
Do I need to stop playing sports or working to recover?
Not always. Many patients continue modified activity while working through therapy. Your provider identifies which movements aggravate the tendon and helps you adjust technique or workload so healing continues without a complete stop to your routine.
How is tennis elbow diagnosed?
Diagnosis starts with a hands-on exam checking grip strength and pain location, often confirmed with diagnostic ultrasound. Seeing the tendon directly helps our team rule out other causes and target treatment to the exact area involved.
How long does tennis elbow treatment take?
Recovery timelines vary based on how long the tendon has been irritated and how consistently you follow your program. Many patients see steady improvement over several weeks of therapy paired with at-home exercises.
Can tennis elbow come back after treatment?
It can if the original strain pattern returns without changes to grip technique or workload. Part of your plan includes strengthening and movement guidance designed to lower the chance of the same tendon flaring up again.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
