OVERVIEW

ABOUT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational therapy gets at the part of recovery people actually care about. Not how much you can lift in a clinic, but whether you can button a shirt without fighting it. Open a jar. Hold a pen long enough to sign your name. The small tasks that make up an ordinary day, the ones you never think about until one of them gets hard. Our occupational therapists work on exactly that. They look at where daily life is breaking down, sort out what's behind it, and rebuild the strength, coordination, and know-how to get those tasks back. Every plan fits the person in front of us, because no two people get tripped up by the same things. The point stays simple. Get your day back to feeling like yours.

Orthopedic Experts

I was in chronic pain for 6+ months. I saw three different sports medicine physicians with no answers or relief. I started going to Bloom with the expectation of just managing my pain with dry needling. Eric did a few treatments on my shoulder as I requested but I kept coming back. He took a time out and wanted to make sure that nothing was overlooked, so he did an ultrasound. He found a rotator cuff tear, it was overlooked by other providers. I’m finally getting the right treatments and healing. I’m so so grateful that he took the time. This office is wonderful and you feel like family as soon as you walk through the door.

I started seeing Eric in the middle of last year because of a sudden back spasm injury. As an avid runner I wanted to be treated and be able to get back out there on the road again. Eric and his team gave me the confidence and the tools to have me running in 6 weeks. His knowledge and attention to his patients went far beyond what I have received in a long time at other PT facilities. I am now a healthy runner, I know what it takes to keep my body strong, and I can always visit the team when I need to keep a little tweak or get dialed in before the races.

I had never tried, or even heard of, dry needling before, but after Eric treated my elbow, it magically came around in a matter of weeks, after being tight and sore and painful for months post-surgery. I couldn’t believe it! He then turned his attention to areas of my back, hips and legs, and the impact was similarly fantastic! I can’t say enough about the procedure, and Eric’s expertise in it!… In addition to the dry needling, Eric and Frank have put me through and given me a variety of core and functional exercises to help with my strength and stability…

Answering Your Questions

How is occupational therapy different from physical therapy?

They overlap, but the focus differs. Physical therapy leans toward movement, strength, and mobility. Occupational therapy zeroes in on the daily tasks themselves, like dressing, cooking, writing, or getting back to a job.

Can occupational therapy help after a hand or wrist injury?

Yes, that's a big part of it. After an injury or surgery, hands lose strength, range, and coordination. Therapy rebuilds those through targeted exercise and hands-on work, so gripping, pinching, and fine movements come back enough to handle everyday tasks again.

Will therapy help me get back to work?

Often it can. Many people come in because pain or an injury made their job tasks tough to manage. The therapist looks at what your work actually demands and builds a plan around getting you back to doing it without re-aggravating the problem.

Is occupational therapy only for serious injuries?

Not at all. People come in for arthritis that makes daily tasks harder, for nerve issues, for trouble with grip or coordination, and plenty of other reasons. If something in your daily routine has gotten hard to do, it's worth a look at our East Mesa clinic.

What can I expect to work on at home?

Quite a bit of progress happens between visits. The therapist usually sends you off with simple exercises or task practice to keep building on what you did in the clinic. At East Mesa, that home piece is part of what keeps the gains steady.

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
