OVERVIEW
ABOUT SPINAL & DISC REHABILITATION
Spinal and disc rehabilitation helps people move without constant back or neck pain holding them back. For some, the problem is a disc that has been irritated for years. For others, it is stiffness in the spine that shows up after hours of sitting. Some describe sharp pain that travels down the leg or into the arm. Whatever the pattern, back and disc problems affect more than just movement. They change sleep, posture, and even how you sit or stand in daily life. At the East Mesa clinic, therapists look closely at what the spine needs. Sometimes that means building core strength, sometimes it is focused mobility drills, and sometimes it is hands-on care to calm the irritation. Each plan is shaped for the patient. Recovery is not always fast, but step-by-step progress can add up until things feel manageable again.

I was in chronic pain for 6+ months. I saw three different sports medicine physicians with no answers or relief. I started going to Bloom with the expectation of just managing my pain with dry needling. Eric did a few treatments on my shoulder as I requested but I kept coming back. He took a time out and wanted to make sure that nothing was overlooked, so he did an ultrasound. He found a rotator cuff tear, it was overlooked by other providers. I’m finally getting the right treatments and healing. I’m so so grateful that he took the time. This office is wonderful and you feel like family as soon as you walk through the door.

I started seeing Eric in the middle of last year because of a sudden back spasm injury. As an avid runner I wanted to be treated and be able to get back out there on the road again. Eric and his team gave me the confidence and the tools to have me running in 6 weeks. His knowledge and attention to his patients went far beyond what I have received in a long time at other PT facilities. I am now a healthy runner, I know what it takes to keep my body strong, and I can always visit the team when I need to keep a little tweak or get dialed in before the races.

I had never tried, or even heard of, dry needling before, but after Eric treated my elbow, it magically came around in a matter of weeks, after being tight and sore and painful for months post-surgery. I couldn’t believe it! He then turned his attention to areas of my back, hips and legs, and the impact was similarly fantastic! I can’t say enough about the procedure, and Eric’s expertise in it!… In addition to the dry needling, Eric and Frank have put me through and given me a variety of core and functional exercises to help with my strength and stability…

Answering Your Questions
What conditions are treated with spinal and disc rehab?
Therapy treats herniated discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, and persistent neck or back pain. Patients come in due to rigidity after sitting or previous trauma.
How does spinal rehab alleviate pain?
It achieves this by enhancing core stability, improving flexibility, and improving posture. The spine is supported better over time, and hence reduces strain and minimizes irritations around the discs.
Should I get imaging before therapy begins?
Not necessarily. Patients occasionally present an MRI or an X-ray report, but the majority present after an examination at the clinic. Additional tests are guided by therapists if deemed necessary.
How soon will I see results?
It varies. Some people feel less tension after a few visits, while others need several weeks. Progress often starts small, like sleeping better or sitting longer without pain.
Is spinal rehab safe for older adults?
Yes. At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of East Mesa, AZ, therapy is adjusted for age and comfort. Gentle strengthening and mobility drills are common to keep things safe but effective.
