OVERVIEW
ABOUT TMJ
TMJ pain can sneak up on you. It might start with a small click near your ear or tightness when you chew. Then it lingers. Yawning feels stiff. The jaw aches. The neck starts to carry extra tension. Many people in East Mesa deal with this from stress, clenching, or sitting at a desk all day. At Get Modern Medicine of East Mesa, AZ, we help calm irritated joints and ease sore muscles. We measure how wide your jaw opens, how it moves side to side, and how pain levels change over time.
BOOKING APPOINTMENTS
You can schedule online or give us a call. We keep the process simple. Before your first visit, we’ll tell you what to expect and how to prepare. This might include: wear comfortable clothes and bring a note about any recent dental work, medication, or mouth guards.

Recovery depends on steady attention. Most people start with one or two visits each week. As pain fades and movement returns, appointments spread out. A typical plan lasts four to eight weeks, but every case is different. We track your results closely and adjust care based on how your body responds.
DIAGNOSE
EXAM & IMAGING
Your first session starts with listening. We’ll ask when the pain began, what sets it off, and how often it happens. We measure your jaw opening in millimeters and note any clicking or shifting. The exam includes your neck and shoulders since they often add to the strain.
TREATMENTS
CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM
We start with hands-on work for the masseter, temporalis, and pterygoid muscles. Small joint movements help your jaw glide better and reduce stiffness. We’ll also show you how to use heat when tightness builds and how to rest your jaw between meals.
FOLLOW UP
WE CALL TO CHECK IN
Follow up sessions fine-tune your progress. We measure changes each visit and adapt as needed. Stretches move into strength and control work. Some visits focus on mobility, others on building endurance. We may include light chewing or talking drills to restore comfort during normal activity.

I was in chronic pain for 6+ months. I saw three different sports medicine physicians with no answers or relief. I started going to Bloom with the expectation of just managing my pain with dry needling. Eric did a few treatments on my shoulder as I requested but I kept coming back. He took a time out and wanted to make sure that nothing was overlooked, so he did an ultrasound. He found a rotator cuff tear, it was overlooked by other providers. I’m finally getting the right treatments and healing. I’m so so grateful that he took the time. This office is wonderful and you feel like family as soon as you walk through the door.

I started seeing Eric in the middle of last year because of a sudden back spasm injury. As an avid runner I wanted to be treated and be able to get back out there on the road again. Eric and his team gave me the confidence and the tools to have me running in 6 weeks. His knowledge and attention to his patients went far beyond what I have received in a long time at other PT facilities. I am now a healthy runner, I know what it takes to keep my body strong, and I can always visit the team when I need to keep a little tweak or get dialed in before the races.

I had never tried, or even heard of, dry needling before, but after Eric treated my elbow, it magically came around in a matter of weeks, after being tight and sore and painful for months post-surgery. I couldn’t believe it! He then turned his attention to areas of my back, hips and legs, and the impact was similarly fantastic! I can’t say enough about the procedure, and Eric’s expertise in it!… In addition to the dry needling, Eric and Frank have put me through and given me a variety of core and functional exercises to help with my strength and stability…

Answering Your Questions
What does TMJ therapy feel like?
It’s gentle and steady. You’ll feel light pressure as the muscles relax. It is possible that some mild soreness can happen during early sessions. This will fade as motion improves.
Can TMJ pain affect my sleep?
Jaw tension and clenching worsen at night for many people. Sleep can be more comfortable once the muscles relax and many patients notice fewer wake-ups and better rest.
What if my jaw clicks every time I chew?
Clicking often means the joint isn’t moving smoothly. Therapy helps realign motion and reduce strain. As the muscles balance out, the sound often fades.
How can I help myself between sessions?
Keep your teeth apart and your tongue resting on the roof of your mouth. Use warm compresses when tightness builds. Avoid hard foods, gum, and biting nails. Take short breaks to stretch and relax your neck during the day.
Will this help with headaches?
Yes. TMJ tension often spreads into the head and temples. As the jaw relaxes, headaches usually lessen or stop altogether.
