OVERVIEW
ABOUT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational therapy is about the parts of the day that quietly stopped being easy. Pulling on socks. Working a zipper. Gripping a fork through a meal. Typing out an email without your hand giving up halfway. These are the things nobody notices until one of them turns into a struggle, and then they're all you can think about. Our occupational therapists go straight to that. They figure out where your day is snagging, dig into what's behind it, and rebuild the strength, coordination, and practical know-how to get those tasks back under your control. Some days that means retraining a hand after surgery. Other days, it's reworking how you handle a job that pain has made miserable. No two people lose the same things, so no two plans match.

Rebuilding daily function usually takes more than one visit. At our Gilbert clinic, sessions are spaced across several weeks, so skills come back steadily instead of all at once.
DIAGNOSE
EXAM & IMAGING
Therapists look at how your hands work, how you handle everyday tasks, and where things fall apart. That first read keeps the plan tied to your real obstacles, not a generic checklist.

This is our go to place for all physical therapy! We have been coming here for at least 3 years now for my daughter’s sports injuries from dance. They also do imaging so it is a 1 stop clinic. We have been very pleased with the results but what’s set them apart is the staff. They take their time to explain everything to you, take their time with the therapy and treat you like family. We highly recommend them to everyone we know!

Anyone looking for a PT team look no further. I had an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) surgery mid-September. Physical Therapy was recommended after week 4 post surgery. My journey to find the right fit began and ended at Modern Physical Therapy in Gilbert. I was looking for a ‘team’ that would partner with me so I would receive the best, safest and most effective care/results possible knowing that my recovery would not be easy or a quick fix. My treatments began the beginning of October with Ben and Drey who are great listeners, are extremely accomplished with all types of needs and have been an amazing part of my team. Equally as important are the girls who are at the front desk. The girls are first to welcome you, accommodate your schedules while making appts, and answer any questions you may have with insurance etc. I highly recommend Modern PT and their entire team!!

Modern PT is excellent. They are very supportive and really do a good job with therapy. The whole staff is very kind. They take 1 hour and run on time which I really like. I appreciate their treatments. I feel much better after a hard surgery.

What Are You Experiencing?
Most people don’t come in knowing exactly what treatment they need. What they do know is that something hurts. That’s all we need to start. Fill out this quick form and just tell us how your pain feels. Once we read through it, we’ll give you a call to talk about what might be causing it and what we can do to help.
LOW HIGH
SEVERE PAIN
If your pain feels unbearable or you can’t think straight, please don’t wait; call 911 or head to the hospital right away. Get the urgent care first. Once you’re safe, we’ll be here to help with the next steps.
MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT
This is the kind of pain that doesn’t stop you completely, but it makes every day harder. Maybe it’s sharp. Maybe it’s dull and won’t let up. Write down what it feels like. We’ll go over it with you and start figuring out what’s behind it.
MINOR PAINS & ACHES
Even the small stuff matters. A stiff back in the morning, sore joints after work, or little aches that keep showing up are all worth paying attention to. Tell us what you’ve been noticing, and we’ll help you stay on top of it before it gets worse.

Answering Your Questions
What kinds of problems does occupational therapy actually treat?
A wide range. People come in after hand or wrist surgery, with arthritis that's made daily tasks tough, with nerve issues affecting grip, or with coordination that's slipped after an injury or stroke. At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Gilbert, AZ, the common thread is daily function, whatever's behind it.
How is this different from regular physical therapy?
Physical therapy works on movement, strength, and getting around. Occupational therapy zeroes in on the specific daily tasks, dressing, cooking, writing, and handling your job. The two often run alongside each other when both apply.
Can it help with arthritis in my hands?
Yes, that's a frequent reason people come in. Therapy works on keeping the joints moving, building grip where it's faded, and finding easier ways to manage the tasks that arthritis has made painful. The goal is to keep your hands useful for daily life.
Will occupational therapy help me get back to my job?
Often it can. Plenty of people come in because an injury or condition makes their work tasks hard to manage. The therapist looks at what your job actually demands and builds the plan around getting you back to it without re-aggravating the problem.
Do I practice things at home too?
Yes, and it matters. A lot of progress happens between visits. The therapist usually sends you home with simple exercises or task practice to build on the clinic work. At our Gilbert clinic, that home piece is a big part of what keeps things moving.
"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."
