Birth Changes the Body. Recovery Deserves Real Care

After a rotator cuff repair, you go to PT. After a hip replacement, you go to PT. Nobody questions it. Physical recovery after something major requires actual work.

Childbirth is major. Sometimes, more than people realize until after.

But postpartum rehab almost never comes up. Women go home, figure they’ll feel better in a few weeks, and push through. Sometimes that works. Often it doesn’t. A year later, they’re still leaking on runs. Still avoiding certain positions because of pain. Still dealing with a back that settled wrong. Scar tissue from a C-section or episiotomy that was never treated.

That stuff quietly affects how you sleep, move, and get through your day. It doesn’t have to stay that way.

Common Doesn’t Have To Mean Normal

Patients come into our Gilbert clinic after spending a year or more being told this is just what motherhood feels like. It’s genuinely frustrating to hear because most of what they’ve been living with is treatable. Does any of this sound familiar?

Pain while walking

Low back or pelvic pain that shows up on ordinary things.

Fear of Tearing

Not knowing what delivery is actually going to do to your body or what recovery on the other side of it looks like.

Safe Workouts

Wanting to stay active during pregnancy or get back to exercise after, but not sure where the line is.

Urinary Leaking

At the gym, sneezing twice, picking something heavy off the floor.

How The Care Actually Works Here

You get a real assessment. Not a printed exercise sheet. Here’s what it generally looks like.

1. Checkup Before Birth

Pushing positions, labor mechanics, and how to lower your tearing risk. The practical prep that most OB appointments just don’t have time for.

2. Rehab Right After Delivery

Early assessment for diastasis recti, pelvic floor function, and scar tissue. The sooner we catch something, the less involved the treatment tends to be.

3. Full Recovery

Back to workouts you actually want to do. Moving through a full day without symptoms, quietly making your decisions.

YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. WE HAVE ANSWERS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I had my baby eight months ago. Have I waited too long?

No. The pelvic floor and core respond well to treatment, whether you’re two months out or two years out. Earlier tends to be simpler, but there’s no point where it stops being worth doing. We see women at every stage.

My six-week checkup was fine. Why would I still need PT?

That visit checks that you healed without serious complications. It’s not looking at function. Leaking, pelvic pain, core weakness, and scar tissue problems often don’t get assessed there at all, even when they’re clearly affecting daily life.

What actually happens at the first appointment?

We talk first. Your delivery, your symptoms, what a normal day feels like right now. Then a physical assessment.

I only leak occasionally. Is that really enough to come in for?

Probably yes. Small leaks are easy to minimize, but they usually signal something that gets more stubborn the longer it goes unaddressed.

Can I start before the baby arrives?

Yes, and it’s worth it. Prenatal PT is something we genuinely wish more women used. Working on pelvic mobility, positioning, and pushing prep before delivery can change how labor goes and how quickly your body recovers after.
