OVERVIEW
ABOUT TENNIS ELBOW TREATMENT
Tennis elbow affects a lot of people who've never held a racket, and most who have it never played. It comes from repeated gripping and wrist motion, which covers a huge range of jobs, hobbies, and daily tasks. The pain lands on the outside of the elbow and speaks up when you grip something, turn a key, lift a mug, or shake a hand. What's really going on is that the tendons tying your forearm muscles to the elbow have gotten irritated and stopped healing right. Here's the trap. Resting it seems like the obvious move, and it does quiet things for a bit, but rest alone leaves the tendon weak. You get back to normal, and the pain comes back. Tendons rebuild through controlled loading, not by sitting idle. Our team works out what's overloading yours, then builds it back the way tendons actually respond to. It asks for some patience, since tendons are slow healers, but done right it settles for good.

A cranky elbow tendon rarely settles fast. At our Northwest Tucson clinic, treatment runs across several weeks, giving the tendon time to rebuild without being pushed too hard.
DIAGNOSE
EXAM & IMAGING
We check your grip, how the elbow moves, and which motions reproduce the pain. That read confirms it's tennis elbow and points to what's overloading it.

Office was very welcoming from the moment you walked into the office, Marissa and Kelsey were there to greet me. They know all of their patients and treat them like family. Dr. Dault was AMAZING. SHE listened and really searched to find the answers to my pain. Eric was very thorough when doing my ultrasound to diagnose my issue. Their recommendations helped me and in the end my pain decreased! Thank you to the entire team!

I was in a pretty dark place before starting at the Chandler location. My low back pain was completely debilitating and affecting the quality of my life for many years. I saw Phil once a week for 6 weeks and feel stronger and more confident than I have in many, many years. Phil explained the results of my MRI in great detail and answered my questions (as trivial as they might have been) with respect and understanding... I have been to many physical therapists before and the results I got here were the best. I highly recommend the Chandler location and will go back again if I ever need to!

Where do I start with the praise for this Team of miracle workers... I had suffered from chronic lower back pain for the last 8 years due to 32 years of golf and upper back pain due to 13 years of sitting at a desk. I utilized a chiropractor for the past 7 years but the pain ALWAYS came back and I NEVER got better. One visit with Dr. Josh and two X-rays showed the problem was stemming from my foot and a collapsing arch—which my previous chiropractor NEVER took the time to explore and diagnose.

Answering Your Questions
How is tennis elbow different from golfer's elbow?
Mainly location. Tennis elbow hits the tendons on the outside of the elbow, golfer's elbow the inside. Both come from repetitive gripping and wrist motion and respond to similar loading-based treatment. The evaluation at Modern Medicine of Northwest Tucson, AZ confirms which one you have.
Does a strap or brace actually help?
A strap can take some pressure off the tendon and make daily tasks easier. It's a useful support, not a cure. The tendon still needs strengthening to recover, so a brace works best alongside the loading work rather than in place of it.
Should I rest my arm completely?
Usually not. Full rest leaves the tendon weak and the elbow stiff, so the pain returns when you get back to activity. Better to adjust which motions you do while controlled exercise loads the tendon in a way that helps it heal.
Why is it taking months to get better?
Tendons get very little blood flow, which is exactly what tissue needs to heal quickly. So they're slow by nature. A stubborn case can take months of steady work, and sticking with the loading past the point where pain fades is what makes it hold.
What if I don't do anything repetitive?
Most cases trace to some repeated gripping or wrist motion, even when it's not obvious. Typing, tools, lifting, gardening, carrying bags. We look at your daily activities to find the source, since changing it is often key to lasting relief.
