OVERVIEW
ABOUT TENNIS ELBOW TREATMENT
The name throws people off. Most folks who come in with tennis elbow have never picked up a racket. It's painters. Plumbers. Cooks. Mechanics. New parents hauling a baby up the same way forty times a day. Anyone whose hands and wrists grind through the same motion over and over.
What you feel is an ache on the outside of the elbow that won't quit. Shake somebody's hand and it stings. Lift a full mug, turn a screwdriver, and back it comes. A lot of people notice the grip going soft too, like the arm doesn't quite trust itself to hold on.
Underneath, it's the tendons. The ones anchoring your forearm muscles to the outside of the elbow get overworked and irritated from all that gripping and wrist motion. Nothing snaps in a dramatic way. They just wear down and quit handling the load they used to shrug off.
Tennis elbow is stubborn, but it does come around with the right care. The mistake is gritting your teeth and pushing through, which mostly keeps it going for months. At Modern Medicine of Oro Valley, AZ, we settle the tendon down and figure out what overloaded it.

Office was very welcoming from the moment you walked into the office, Marissa and Kelsey were there to greet me. They know all of their patients and treat them like family. Dr. Dault was AMAZING. SHE listened and really searched to find the answers to my pain. Eric was very thorough when doing my ultrasound to diagnose my issue. Their recommendations helped me and in the end my pain decreased! Thank you to the entire team!

I was in a pretty dark place before starting at the Chandler location. My low back pain was completely debilitating and affecting the quality of my life for many years. I saw Phil once a week for 6 weeks and feel stronger and more confident than I have in many, many years. Phil explained the results of my MRI in great detail and answered my questions (as trivial as they might have been) with respect and understanding... I have been to many physical therapists before and the results I got here were the best. I highly recommend the Chandler location and will go back again if I ever need to!

Where do I start with the praise for this Team of miracle workers... I had suffered from chronic lower back pain for the last 8 years due to 32 years of golf and upper back pain due to 13 years of sitting at a desk. I utilized a chiropractor for the past 7 years but the pain ALWAYS came back and I NEVER got better. One visit with Dr. Josh and two X-rays showed the problem was stemming from my foot and a collapsing arch—which my previous chiropractor NEVER took the time to explore and diagnose.

What Are You Experiencing?
Most people know something is off before they know what to call it. Just describe what daily life actually feels like right now and the team will follow up, talk through what might be driving it, and discuss what a realistic path looks like.
LOW HIGH
SEVERE PAIN
Sudden and extreme pain that is stopping you from functioning needs immediate attention. Call 911 or go straight to a hospital. Only once the situation is handled can the team help with what recovery looks like after.
MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT
Pain that gets in the way without completely shutting the day down. Builds through a long shift, shows up during certain movements, or just sits there in the background. Share what is going on and the team will work through what is likely behind it.
MINOR PAINS & ACHES
Do you have a hip that tightens up on longer hikes but feels fine otherwise? A wrist that aches after racket sports and takes a day to settle? These so-called “minor” issues can start off small, and then become bigger when left unaddressed.

Answering Your Questions
Do I have to stop using my arm completely?
No, and total rest tends to backfire. It quiets things for a while, but leaves the tendon weak, so it flares right back the minute you get going. What works better is easing off what aggravates it while slowly loading the tendon so it gets stronger.
Why does tennis elbow take so long to heal?
Will a strap or brace help?
For a lot of people, it takes the edge off. A strap just below the elbow takes some load off the sore tendon while you're using the arm. It's a helpful piece, not the whole fix, so we pair it with exercises that go after the cause.
Can it come back after it clears up?
It can, if the habits behind it don't change. That's why we dig into your grip, your wrist positions, and the tasks that set it off, then build the strength so the tendon handles your daily load without complaining.
Is it the same thing as golfer's elbow?
They're cousins, not twins. Tennis elbow hits the outside of the elbow, golfer's elbow the inside, but both come down to overloaded tendons doing repeated gripping. The approach overlaps, though where we load depends on which side is sore.
"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."
