OVERVIEW

ABOUT TENNIS ELBOW TREATMENT

Tennis elbow catches a lot of people who've never held a racket. It comes from repeated gripping and wrist motion, which describes plenty of jobs, hobbies, and everyday tasks. The pain lands on the outside of the elbow and speaks up when you grip something, turn a key, lift a mug, or shake a hand. What's actually happening is that the tendons tying your forearm muscles to the elbow have gotten irritated and stopped healing right. Here's where people get stuck. Resting it seems like the obvious move, and it does quiet things for a bit, but rest alone leaves the tendon weak. You get back to normal, and the pain comes back. Tendons rebuild through controlled loading, not by sitting idle. Our team figures out what's overloading yours and builds it back the way tendons actually respond.

A cranky elbow tendon rarely settles fast. At our Sun Lakes clinic, treatment runs across several weeks, giving the tendon time to rebuild without being pushed too hard.

DIAGNOSE

EXAM & IMAGING

We check your grip, how the elbow moves, and which motions reproduce the pain. That read confirms it's tennis elbow and points to what's overloading it.

Orthopedic Experts

I highly recommend Modern Physical Therapy in Sun Lakes. Dr. McKenna Brown was my Physical Therapist. She was excellent and when I left, so did the pain I arrived with. Both of her Techs, Laurence and Brayden were great. They all work together like a well oiled machine. It was easy to tell that everyone there, including Jake PT were all good at their jobs. It was always a pleasure to be greeted by Lexi at the front desk. Needless to say I was kind of sorry I had leave but I plan on stopping by to say hello from time to time.

I’ve had such a positive experience here! The entire team is incredibly kind, welcoming, and easy to talk to. They know every patient by name and remember the details of your care. They work together seamlessly to make sure you feel supported, confident, and prepared—both in sessions and at home. They’ve also been super flexible with my work schedule. I was nervous going in based on past PT experiences, but this team completely changed that. Highly recommend!!!!

With the help of Dr. McKenna Brown and her staff, I was able to regain my mobility and get back to my normal routine. She was patient, understanding, and encouraging, and I always felt like she had my best interests at heart. Jake and all the staff are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I can’t thank them enough for the amazing care they provided.

What Are You Experiencing?

Most people don’t walk in knowing the exact treatment. They just know something hurts. That’s enough. Use the short form to tell us what’s going on, even if it’s just “my back feels tight” or “this pain won’t leave me alone.” Once we get it, we’ll give you a call and talk through what might be happening and how we can help.

SEVERE PAIN

If the pain is so strong you can’t think straight, don’t wait. Call 911 or get to the hospital. Your safety comes first. Once that’s handled, we’ll be here to focus on the next steps with you.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

This kind of pain doesn’t always stop your day, but it makes everything harder. Some describe it as sharp, others say it’s dull and always there. However you explain it, just write it down. We’ll use that to start figuring out what’s going on.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Little aches may seem easy to ignore, but they add up. A stiff shoulder in the morning, sore feet after work, or that one spot that acts up every now and then, they matter too. Tell us what you’ve noticed, and we’ll help you get ahead of it.

Answering Your Questions

How is tennis elbow different from golfer's elbow?

Mainly location. Tennis elbow affects the tendons on the outside of the elbow, golfer's elbow the inside. Both come from repetitive gripping and wrist motion and respond to similar loading-based treatment. The evaluation at Modern Medicine of Sun Lakes, AZ confirms which one you have.

Does a strap or brace help?

A strap can take some pressure off the tendon and make daily tasks more comfortable. It's a helpful support, not a cure. The tendon still needs strengthening to recover, so a brace works best alongside the loading work rather than in place of it.

Should I rest my arm completely?
Usually not. Full rest leaves the tendon weak and the elbow stiff, so the pain returns when you resume activity. Better to adjust which motions you do while controlled exercise loads the tendon in a way that helps it heal.
Why is it taking months to improve?

Tendons get very little blood flow, which is exactly what tissue needs to heal quickly. So they're slow by nature. A stubborn case can take months of steady work, and sticking with the loading past the point where pain fades is what makes it hold.

What if I don't do anything repetitive?

Most cases trace to some repeated gripping or wrist motion, even when it's not obvious. Typing, tools, lifting, gardening, carrying bags. We look at your daily activities to find the source, since changing it is often key to lasting relief.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
