OVERVIEW

ABOUT X-ray

Pain gets frustrating when it does not follow a clear pattern. You stand up and feel a jab, then five minutes later it eases off. Your knee handles a short walk, but stairs bring the pain right back. Your shoulder seems manageable until you reach behind you or lift something small from an awkward angle. After a while, people stop knowing what to trust. They start changing how they move, skipping things they usually do, and hoping the problem settles down before it gets any bigger.

At Modern Medicine of Tucson, AZ, we use X-rays when a closer look at the joint can help make sense of what is happening. They can help explain why a joint feels stuck, why one side moves differently, or why a certain motion keeps setting things off.

BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

Call the clinic or schedule online, and we will tell you what the visit involves before you come in. If you already have older imaging or a report from somewhere else, bring it with you because it may help us compare what has changed.

Many patients can have X-rays done during the same visit as their evaluation. If you need more care after imaging, we will go over the next step and shape the plan around your symptoms and your week.

DIAGNOSE

EXAM & IMAGING

We start with where you feel the pain and what aggravates it, whether that is walking, standing, bending, reaching, or lifting. Then we talk through the other options if the problem seems bigger than what an X-ray usually shows.

TREATMENTS

CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM

After the images are done, your provider goes over them with you in simple terms. Then we talk about what makes sense next, whether that is rehab, bracing, activity changes, or another referral.

Office was very welcoming from the moment you walked into the office, Marissa and Kelsey were there to greet me. They know all of their patients and treat them like family. Dr. Dault was AMAZING. SHE listened and really searched to find the answers to my pain. Eric was very thorough when doing my ultrasound to diagnose my issue. Their recommendations helped me and in the end my pain decreased! Thank you to the entire team!

I was in a pretty dark place before starting at the Chandler location. My low back pain was completely debilitating and affecting the quality of my life for many years. I saw Phil once a week for 6 weeks and feel stronger and more confident than I have in many, many years. Phil explained the results of my MRI in great detail and answered my questions (as trivial as they might have been) with respect and understanding... I have been to many physical therapists before and the results I got here were the best. I highly recommend the Chandler location and will go back again if I ever need to!

Where do I start with the praise for this Team of miracle workers... I had suffered from chronic lower back pain for the last 8 years due to 32 years of golf and upper back pain due to 13 years of sitting at a desk. I utilized a chiropractor for the past 7 years but the pain ALWAYS came back and I NEVER got better. One visit with Dr. Josh and two X-rays showed the problem was stemming from my foot and a collapsing arch—which my previous chiropractor NEVER took the time to explore and diagnose.

What Are You Experiencing?

You don’t have to have it all figured out by yourself. Most people just know that it hurts, not how to fix it. That’s enough. Fill out this simple form and let us know in your own words how it’s hurting. We’ll take a look and then give you a call in order to take you through what may be happening and how we may be able to help.

SEVERE PAIN

If your pain is severe and you cannot manage it, don’t wait. Call 911 or come directly to your local hospital. Attend to the emergency first. When you are in a place of safety and ready, we will have follow-up care and recovery available.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

This type of pain will interfere with daily life. Sometimes it’s a sharp, aching type, sometimes it’ll just be a dull sensation. Either way, however, it’s a good idea to pay attention to it. Take note of how it feels, and we can go from there in figuring out what’s going on.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Even tiny aches add up. That sore back, muscle pains, or that pesky hurt you keep postponing do matter and could ruin your day. Let us in on what you’ve noticed, and we’ll collaborate to keep things from escalating.

Answering Your Questions

Can an X-ray help if the pain has been coming and going for months?
Yes, it can. X-rays can see through the muscle and can help pinpoint where the source of the pain might be. It is useful for stiffness or repeated flare-ups that are starting to affect daily life.
What if I already know I have arthritis?

That is still useful to check. Updated images can show how the joint looks now. This will help us connect those changes to the pain or stiffness you are dealing with today and adjust your treatment as needed.

Will I need to do anything special before the visit?

No, but it helps to wear something comfortable that makes the sore area easier to get to, like shorts for a knee or a loose shirt for a shoulder.

Can an X-ray show why a joint feels like it catches or shifts?

Sometimes, yes espically if there is joint narrowing, alignment change, or another bone-related issue.

What happens after the X-ray if the problem is not in the bone?

We will say that clearly and talk through the next option. Sometimes the best next step is rehab, and sometimes it is another type of imaging if the symptoms point somewhere else.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
