OVERVIEW
Pain shows up at the most inconvenient times. You could have a knee that gave out during a trail run on Pusch Ridge. A shoulder that started aching during a pickleball game and has not settled since. A calf that pulled during a weekend soccer match and is still not right three weeks later.
At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Oro Valley, we start by hearing the full story. When it showed up. What aggravates it? What has already been tried. Those details are what separate a plan that actually works from one that just manages symptoms until they come back.
BOOKING APPOINTMENTS
Call the Oro Valley office or book online when that fits the schedule better. The team walks through what to expect, how long the first visit runs, and what to bring so nothing about showing up feels uncertain.

What Are You Experiencing?
Most people know something is off before they know what to call it. Just describe what daily life actually feels like right now and the team will follow up, talk through what might be driving it, and discuss what a realistic path looks like.
LOW HIGH
SEVERE PAIN
Sudden and extreme pain that is stopping you from functioning needs immediate attention. Call 911 or go straight to a hospital. Only once the situation is handled can the team help with what recovery looks like after.
MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT
Pain that gets in the way without completely shutting the day down. Builds through a long shift, shows up during certain movements, or just sits there in the background. Share what is going on and the team will work through what is likely behind it.
MINOR PAINS & ACHES
Do you have a hip that tightens up on longer hikes but feels fine otherwise? A wrist that aches after racket sports and takes a day to settle? These so-called “minor” issues can start off small, and then become bigger when left unaddressed.

Answering Your Questions
Do you work with younger athletes?
Yes. The team sees young athletes from middle school through high school dealing with everything from overuse injuries to acute sports injuries. Plans are age-appropriate and parents stay involved throughout.
My pain only shows up during work, not exercise. Can sports medicine help with that?
Yes. Pain that builds during a long shift, hours at a desk, or time on your feet is just as worth addressing as a sports injury. The plan gets built around what the patient’s actual day looks like rather than just athletic demands.
Can sports medicine help me avoid surgery?
Often yes. A lot of injuries that seem like surgical candidates respond well to structured non-surgical care. If surgery genuinely is the better path, the team will say so plainly rather than continuing a plan that is not going to get there.
I want to stay active while I recover. Is that possible?
Usually, yes, with the right modifications. Most patients keep moving by adjusting what they are doing rather than stopping entirely. The team identifies what is safe to continue and what needs to be temporarily scaled back.
I only play recreational sports. Is sports medicine still worth it for me?
"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."
