OVERVIEW

ABOUT WRIST INJURY TREATMENT

You don't think much about your wrist until it's hurt. It's the hinge your whole hand runs off of, crammed with little bones, ligaments, and tendons that let you bend, twist, and grip. Bang it up and even the small stuff, pouring a pot, pushing up out of a chair, turning a doorknob, goes awkward and sore on you.

Wrist injuries show up in a bunch of ways. Land hard on an outstretched hand and you can crack a bone or sprain the ligaments. Do the same motion over and over and the tendons get irritated. And an old injury can leave the wrist stiff and weak long after it was supposed to be done healing.

What they've all got in common is the same thing. Lost motion, lost strength, and a wrist that won't do its job without griping about it. The good news is most wrist injuries come back around with the right care, and plenty of them never need surgery at all.

At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Peoria, AZ, we figure out what's really going on and put together a plan to get the wrist working again.

DJ at Modern Sports Medicine Physical Therapy and Orthopedics in Peoria, AZ is by far the best physical therapist I’ve worked with! He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and clearly knows what he’s doing. His hands-on manipulation and manual therapy is over the top! I came from another physical therapy practice, and the care there wasn’t even close to the level I’ve received here. I’m very happy I made the switch and met DJ. Highly recommend him and this clinic. He is the best!!

I had a bad knee injury due to a sidewalk fall resulting in some major swelling, cuts and bruises and a slightly impacted meniscus tear. After seeing my PCP and having x-rays, I was directed to Physical Therapy. I searched several facilities and landed at Modern PT. I worked directly with DJ Repp for about 8 weeks and have to say DJ & his team are amazing. They were personable, and highly pro in all that they did in guiding the process to recovery. They work "together" with you according to a pace that you're comfortable with, while providing just enough challenge to keep you forward focused. I recovered so well under their great care. I would highly recommended this particular office at 83rd Ave & Cactus! in Peoria.

What Are You Experiencing?

Pain is hard to put into words. You might not have a good sense of what kind of care you need, and that’s OK. What matters is how things are right now. Please fill out this short form to summarize how things are. We will then follow up and take you through what may be causing the pain, as well as what may work as a solution.

  LOW  HIGH

SEVERE PAIN

If the pain is severe or more than you can manage, don’t wait. Call 911 or go straight to a hospital. Safety comes first. After that, we can help you find longer-term relief.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

Sometimes, pain may not bring you to your knees, but it still disrupts your daily life. Perhaps it’s intermittent and stabbing, or maybe it’s just present during the day. Let’s get those details from you, and we’ll do our best to determine what’s causing it.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Little aches hurt just as badly. A sore shoulder, stiff knees, or a throbbing ache that shows itself every once in a while can still take its toll. Let us know how you’ve been doing, and we’ll take care of it for you before it grows into something bigger.

Answering Your Questions

How do I know if my wrist is broken or just sprained?
On your own, it's genuinely hard to tell, since both hurt and swell. A break tends to come with sharper pain, more swelling, and real trouble putting weight on it, but honestly, imaging is the only way to know for sure. When you're not sure, get it checked instead of guessing.
Do all wrist injuries need a cast?
No. A fracture might, but a lot of sprains and strains actually do better in a supportive splint that guards the wrist while still letting it move a little safely. We match the support to what you've actually got.
Why is my wrist still stiff after it healed?
Your wrist is still while the healing takes place. Therapy loosens the joint back up and rebuilds the strength, which is usually the piece that's missing after a fracture or a long stretch in a cast.
Can therapy help an old wrist injury?
A lot of the time, yes. Even something from a while back can get better with the right motion and strengthening work. It's worth having looked at instead of just deciding a stiff, weak wrist is how things are now.
Will I get my full grip strength back?
Most people get strong, usable function back with a steady rehab program. The wrist and the grip come back together as the motion and strength rebuild. Sticking with the home exercises is what gets you there quickest.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN PHYSICAL THERAPY & SPORTS MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
