The Problem

When Your Hands
Slow You Down

Gripping a coffee mug. Typing through a workday. Buttoning a shirt. Lifting a grandkid off the floor.

Hand pain takes these first. Quietly. One small task at a time, until you’re changing how you do things without really noticing.

Maybe it started with an injury. Maybe a surgery. Maybe it’s just stiffness that showed up one day and never left. Either way, it spreads into everything.

At Modern Medicine, we start by figuring out what’s actually happening in your hand. Not a printed exercise sheet handed to everyone. Your plan comes from your diagnosis, what you want back, and how you use your hands in real life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hand problems do you actually treat?

Carpal tunnel. Trigger finger. Tendonitis, arthritis, nerve injuries. The recovery stretch after a fracture or surgery. Strain that built up from years of the same motion at work or in sports. If your grip’s gone weak or your fingers won’t cooperate on small stuff, that counts too.

Will I need a doctor’s note before my first visit?

Most of the time, no. You can just book the evaluation yourself. If your insurance wants a referral, we’ll catch it early and help you get one. Nobody wants to show up and find out they’re stuck waiting.

Why not just go to a regular PT?

Regular PT covers you head to toe. Hand therapy doesn’t leave the hand, wrist, and forearm. That’s the whole focus. Megan’s a Certified Hand Therapist, and that credential takes training beyond the general stuff, all of it aimed at this one area.

Is the therapy going to hurt?

We’re after progress, not pain. Some of it feels tough early on, especially if you’re stiff or coming off surgery. But we keep it where you can handle it and back off or push depending on how your hand’s doing that day.

What should I bring to the first appointment?

Any imaging or surgery notes, if you’ve got them. And think about the exact tasks that are giving you grief so you can tell us. Wear something we can push up past the elbow. That’s about it.

How soon will I feel a difference?

Hard to say the same for everyone. Depends on the problem and how long you’ve lived with it. Some folks feel the stiffness ease up after a few visits. Other cases take weeks of steady work. We keep track together every time you come in.
