OVERVIEW

ABOUT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

It's rarely one big thing that brings people in. It's the pileup of little ones. The coffee mug that's hard to hold by mid-morning. Buttons that take three tries. A pen that just slips out. You're cutting vegetables and have to stop because your hand quits on you. It creeps in slowly. You work around it for a while, and then the working around is the whole day. Our occupational therapists look at what your life actually asks of your hands and arms. Where's it breaking down, and why. Then comes the rebuilding. Grip, coordination and staying power. Whatever went missing, so those little things stop being a battle. For some folks, that's bouncing back after a hand injury or surgery. For others, it's living with something that's not going away, and finding smarter ways to get the same stuff done. Every pair of hands is its own story.

The front office staff, especially Cheri is wonderful to work with and happy to help with your needs. The therapists there have a great team and attitude. They definitely want to see you succeed. Ian has a great bedside manner but really they all do. I would recommend them anytime.

Fantastic results for chronic sciatica after just 3 weeks. Everyone is kind, helpful and meets you where you are at. I’m so grateful to have found Modern PT.

Modern Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine exceeded my expectations. Being able to get the diagnosis through ultrasound on the first visit is so much more efficient in diagnosing and determining the treatment plan. It was amazing to be able to see the collaboration between Dr. Davies, PT Tim Moxie and Ryan with ultrasound. They are all very caring and I am currently receiving outstanding PT through Tim for shoulder pain. They offer additional treatment options as well. The office staff is flexible. I am recommending this office to friends and family.

What Are You Experiencing?

Pain is hard to put into words. You might not have a good sense of what kind of care you need, and that’s OK. What matters is how things are right now. Please fill out this short form to summarize how things are. We will then follow up and take you through what may be causing the pain, as well as what may work as a solution.

SEVERE PAIN

If the pain is severe such that you are unable to deal, don’t wait. Call 911 or go straight to a hospital. Safety is essential, no matter what. That initial action, after which we are able to lend a hand in helping you find longer-term relief.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

Sometimes, pain will keep you from being brought to your knees, but it does disrupt your ability to function in daily life. Perhaps it’s intermittent and stabbing, or maybe it’s just present during the day. Let’s get those details from you, and we’ll do our best to determine what’s causing it.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Little aches hurt just as badly. A sore shoulder, stiff knees, or a throbbing ache that shows itself every once in a while can still have its toll. Let us know how you’ve been doing, and we’ll take care of it for you before it grows into something bigger.

Answering Your Questions

My hand gets weak and clumsy by the afternoon. What's going on?
That fade through the day usually points to endurance or a nerve issue, not just plain weakness. The muscles tire too fast, or a nerve stops firing cleanly when you use it for a while.
Can occupational therapy help after carpal tunnel or a hand surgery?
Yeah, that's a big chunk of the work. After surgery or a nerve problem, hands lose strength, motion, and fine control. Therapy builds those back piece by piece. It also works on the scar tissue and stiffness that tend to settle in, so the hand can handle real tasks again.
Do you make custom splints or braces?
Often, yes. The right splint can rest a cranky joint, support something that's healing, or set the hand in a better position for a task. When one would help, the therapist fits it to your hand and what you actually do day to day.
I keep dropping things and fumbling small objects. Is that treatable?
Usually, yeah. Trouble with grip, pinch, and fine coordination can come from all kinds of things. Arthritis. A nerve issue. Weakness left over from an injury. Therapy goes after whatever's actually behind it, so the fumbling eases up instead of being something you just put up with.
How is this different from seeing a physical therapist?
They overlap, but the focus is different. Physical therapy leans toward bigger movement, strength, and getting around. Occupational therapy zeroes in on the hands, arms, and the specific daily tasks they handle. When both fit, they often run together.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
