OVERVIEW

ABOUT STEROID INJECTIONS

Some pain won’t fully settle because the area stays irritated. You rest, ice, and back off, and it still nags. Then you do something ordinary, like a grocery run or a longer drive, and it spikes again. Steroid injections can help when inflammation is a big part of the problem. They don’t rebuild cartilage, and they don’t repair a tear. They can calm the irritated spot so walking, sleeping, and basic movement feel less guarded. At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Peoria, AZ, we treat an injection as one tool, not the whole answer. The goal is to use any relief to move better, then build the strength and control that helps keep the flare from returning.

BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

Use the online request form or call us to schedule a visit. We’ll ask where it hurts, what sets it off, and what you’ve tried so far, then we’ll tell you what to bring.

You’ll start with an evaluation, then we decide if an injection fits. If you move forward, we plan rehab around your response so you don’t feel better for a day and then flare again.

DIAGNOSE

EXAM & IMAGING

We start with your history and a movement exam. We look at what triggers symptoms, stairs, reaching, sitting, walking, sleep, and we check how you move. If you have imaging, we review it, but we match it to what your body is doing.

TREATMENTS

CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM

If an injection makes sense, we coordinate it as part of your care plan and pair it with therapy. We work on range of motion, strength around the joint, and how you load the area during daily tasks. Relief helps, but it’s not a free pass to jump right back into everything.

FOLLOW UP

WE CALL TO CHECK IN

We check how you feel over the next days and weeks. If relief is limited or short, we adjust the plan and talk about other options. If it helps, we focus on making it last.

DJ at Modern Sports Medicine Physical Therapy and Orthopedics in Peoria, AZ is by far the best physical therapist I’ve worked with! He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and clearly knows what he’s doing. His hands-on manipulation and manual therapy is over the top! I came from another physical therapy practice, and the care there wasn’t even close to the level I’ve received here. I’m very happy I made the switch and met DJ. Highly recommend him and this clinic. He is the best!!

I had a bad knee injury due to a sidewalk fall resulting in some major swelling, cuts and bruises and a slightly impacted meniscus tear. After seeing my PCP and having x-rays, I was directed to Physical Therapy. I searched several facilities and landed at Modern PT. I worked directly with DJ Repp for about 8 weeks and have to say DJ & his team are amazing. They were personable, and highly pro in all that they did in guiding the process to recovery. They work "together" with you according to a pace that you're comfortable with, while providing just enough challenge to keep you forward focused. I recovered so well under their great care. I would highly recommended this particular office at 83rd Ave & Cactus! in Peoria.

What Are You Experiencing?

Pain is hard to put into words. You might not have a good sense of what kind of care you need, and that’s OK. What matters is how things are right now. Please fill out this short form to summarize how things are. We will then follow up and take you through what may be causing the pain, as well as what may work as a solution.

  LOW  HIGH

SEVERE PAIN

If the pain is severe or more than you can manage, don’t wait. Call 911 or go straight to a hospital. Safety comes first. After that, we can help you find longer-term relief.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

Sometimes, pain may not bring you to your knees, but it still disrupts your daily life. Perhaps it’s intermittent and stabbing, or maybe it’s just present during the day. Let’s get those details from you, and we’ll do our best to determine what’s causing it.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Little aches hurt just as badly. A sore shoulder, stiff knees, or a throbbing ache that shows itself every once in a while can still take its toll. Let us know how you’ve been doing, and we’ll take care of it for you before it grows into something bigger.

Answering Your Questions

How do you tell if inflammation is really the problem?

We look for patterns like swelling, warmth, night aching, and stiffness after rest that eases once you move. We also look at strength and mechanics, because weakness can make a joint feel “inflamed” even when the main issue is load. The exam helps sort that out.

What’s the most common way people mess this up?

They feel better and do too much too fast. A long walk, a hard workout, or a big cleaning day can stir it right back up. We’ll give you simple pacing rules so you don’t trade one good day for a rough week.

If it works, does that mean I’m fixed?

It means the irritation calmed down. It doesn’t mean the cause is gone. That’s why therapy still matters, so you build support and change what’s been stressing the area.

What if it doesn’t help much?
That’s useful information. It can point to a different driver, like tendon overload, mechanics, or nerve involvement. We adjust the plan instead of repeating the same step and hoping.
Can I still take my usual pain meds after an injection?

Sometimes, but don’t assume. If you take something daily, or you use anti-inflammatories on rough days, tell us what it is and how often you take it. Bring a list or a photo of the bottles and we’ll walk through what’s okay and what you may need to pause.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN PHYSICAL THERAPY & SPORTS MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
