OVERVIEW
Let’s be honest, jaw pain wears you down. Maybe it started with a pop when you chewed or tightness that came and went. Then it stayed. Talking feels harder. Your jaw locks for a second or two. The muscles in your neck get sore. That’s usually how TMJ begins. For many people in Peoria, stress or clenching throughout the day makes it worse. At Get Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine of Peoria, AZ, we keep things simple. We calm the joint, loosen the muscles, and help you move without that constant pull. Each visit, we track small changes like how wide you open, how evenly you move, and how much pain has dropped.
BOOKING APPOINTMENTS
You can call us or set it up online. Whatever’s easier. Before your first visit, we’ll explain what happens so you’re not guessing. If you’ve had dental work or use a mouth guard, bring that along. Once you’re here, we handle the details and get started.

SCHEDULE
REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT
Most people come once or twice a week in the beginning. When pain settles, we spread visits out. It’s usually a few weeks of steady care. Sometimes longer, depending on how your jaw reacts. We check in every time and adjust the plan if you need it.
DIAGNOSE
EXAM & IMAGING
We start by talking. When did this start? Does it come and go? What makes it worse? Then we check how wide you can open, if the jaw shifts, and how tight the muscles feel. We always look at your neck and shoulders too.
TREATMENTS
CUSTOM TREATMENT PROGRAM
Treatment is quiet, focused work. We use light pressure on the muscles that usually hold tension: the masseter, pterygoid, and temporalis. Gentle movements help the joint glide again. You’ll pick up small daily habits: stretches, posture resets, breathing to keep from clenching.
FOLLOW UP
WE CALL TO CHECK IN
Every visit builds on what we did last time. We measure your motion, update exercises, and add new ones when you’re ready. Some sessions are for flexibility, others for control and strength. You’ll feel the difference week by week. Less tightness. Easier movement. More normal days.

DJ at Modern Sports Medicine Physical Therapy and Orthopedics in Peoria, AZ is by far the best physical therapist I’ve worked with! He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and clearly knows what he’s doing. His hands-on manipulation and manual therapy is over the top! I came from another physical therapy practice, and the care there wasn’t even close to the level I’ve received here. I’m very happy I made the switch and met DJ. Highly recommend him and this clinic. He is the best!!

I had a bad knee injury due to a sidewalk fall resulting in some major swelling, cuts and bruises and a slightly impacted meniscus tear. After seeing my PCP and having x-rays, I was directed to Physical Therapy. I searched several facilities and landed at Modern PT. I worked directly with DJ Repp for about 8 weeks and have to say DJ & his team are amazing. They were personable, and highly pro in all that they did in guiding the process to recovery. They work "together" with you according to a pace that you're comfortable with, while providing just enough challenge to keep you forward focused. I recovered so well under their great care. I would highly recommended this particular office at 83rd Ave & Cactus! in Peoria.

What Are You Experiencing?
Pain is hard to put into words. You might not have a good sense of what kind of care you need, and that’s OK. What matters is how things are right now. Please fill out this short form to summarize how things are. We will then follow up and take you through what may be causing the pain, as well as what may work as a solution.
LOW HIGH
SEVERE PAIN
If the pain is severe or more than you can manage, don’t wait. Call 911 or go straight to a hospital. Safety comes first. After that, we can help you find longer-term relief.
MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT
Sometimes, pain may not bring you to your knees, but it still disrupts your daily life. Perhaps it’s intermittent and stabbing, or maybe it’s just present during the day. Let’s get those details from you, and we’ll do our best to determine what’s causing it.
MINOR PAINS & ACHES
Little aches hurt just as badly. A sore shoulder, stiff knees, or a throbbing ache that shows itself every once in a while can still take its toll. Let us know how you’ve been doing, and we’ll take care of it for you before it grows into something bigger.

Answering Your Questions
Why does my jaw feel sore after eating?
Those muscles are working too hard. They tighten every time you chew. As they relax, that soreness starts to fade.
Can this help with pain around my temples?
Yes. The same muscles that move your jaw also run up toward your head. Once they loosen, that pressure eases up.
Do I need to stop talking or singing for now?
No, but try shorter sessions and give your jaw breaks. The idea is to move often but not push it.
What should I do when it flares up?
Use warm compresses, eat softer foods, and keep your teeth apart when resting. Let the area settle before big meals or long conversations.
How soon do people feel better?
A lot of patients notice change after two or three sessions. It depends on how long you’ve had it, but steady care always pays off.
"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."
