OVERVIEW

ABOUT Shoulder Pain

At Modern Medicine of Surprise, AZ, orthopedic care steps in when shoulder pain stops fading on its own. You feel it picking up the dog bowl. Loading the dishwasher. Reaching across the car for a bag. The pain might quiet down for a day, then it shows up again in the same spot. A catch when you swing your arm. An ache behind the shoulder after pushing the mower. That worn-out feeling lifting anything above chest height. Stuff like that builds slow, and people put up with it longer than they should. Orthopedic care looks at the joint, the muscles wrapping around it, and the way the shoulder is being used, then maps out a plan that gets it working again.

What Are You Experiencing?

You don’t need to know the exact name of what’s going on and most people don’t. What matters is how it feels to you. Use the short form to tell us, even if it’s just “my back hurts when I wake up” or “it feels like a sharp pinch.” Once we see it, we’ll give you a call to talk things over and figure out some next steps together.

SEVERE PAIN

If the pain is so bad you can’t think straight, please stop here and call 911 or go to the hospital. Getting safe is the first step. When you’re ready afterward, we’ll be here to talk about longer-term help.

MODERATE PAIN / DISCOMFORT

This kind of pain might not knock you down, but it makes life harder than it should be. Maybe it’s a stabbing pain when you move a certain way, or maybe it’s a dull ache that just won’t quit. Write it down as best you can. That’s all we need to get started.

MINOR PAINS & ACHES

Little things add up, too. A stiff neck, sore knees, or that nagging twinge you keep brushing off all matter. Share what you’ve been noticing, and we’ll help you keep it from becoming something bigger.

Answering Your Questions

How do I know my shoulder needs more than rest?
If pain is coming back week after week, or you keep adjusting how you move to avoid it, that is the sign. Shoulders rarely fix themselves once a real pattern sets in. Getting it checked early usually saves time later.
Can older shoulder problems still respond to care?
Yes. Shoulders that have been hurting for months, even years, can still get better. The plan looks a little different than for a new injury, but the joint and muscles can still rebuild strength and motion with the right approach.
Will I need imaging right away?
Not always. Plenty of shoulder issues show up clearly through movement testing alone. If imaging adds something useful, we talk about it. We do not order scans just to order them.
How long until the shoulder actually feels different?
Most folks notice changes in the first few weeks, often with sleep first. Bigger gains in strength and reach take a bit longer. Steady work tends to beat fast fixes here.
What if I have already tried therapy somewhere else?
That happens often. Sometimes the plan was off, or the shoulder needed a different angle of care. We look at what was tried, what helped, what did not, and start from where you actually are.

"Our goal is to help you solve some of your most painful life experiences."

MODERN MEDICINE
CEO

"When an athlete gets injured, a team of doctors and therapists evaluates them, orders imaging, and decides the best path forward. If surgery is needed, they go straight to surgery; if not, they get condition-specific physical therapy and targeted injections to speed healing. This is the same process pro athletes use to get back on the field quickly—and at Modern, you can access that same level of care for the same cost as any other physical therapy clinic."   - Josh Adams
