OVERVIEW
ABOUT SPINAL & DISC REHABILITATION
Spinal and disc rehabilitation focuses on patients who live with ongoing back or neck issues that refuse to fade on their own. For certain patients, the issue is low-back pain following standing. For other patients, it is a shooting pain that runs downward the leg or arm and makes movement more cumbersome than it needs to be. These issues affect sleep, posture, and daily functioning. At Modern Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, physical therapy of the spine and discs is about the identification of what is causing the pain. Weak supportive muscles, jammed-up joints, irritated discs, or poor movement habits are common culprits. Treatment includes strengthening of the core muscle group, stretching, movement education, or manual therapy. Progress is individually designed uniquely toward a patient, but slow effort works toward reversing loss of function and transcending movement fear.

This is our go to place for all physical therapy! We have been coming here for at least 3 years now for my daughter’s sports injuries from dance. They also do imaging so it is a 1 stop clinic. We have been very pleased with the results but what’s set them apart is the staff. They take their time to explain everything to you, take their time with the therapy and treat you like family. We highly recommend them to everyone we know!

Anyone looking for a PT team look no further. I had an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) surgery mid-September. Physical Therapy was recommended after week 4 post surgery. My journey to find the right fit began and ended at Modern Physical Therapy in Gilbert. I was looking for a ‘team’ that would partner with me so I would receive the best, safest and most effective care/results possible knowing that my recovery would not be easy or a quick fix. My treatments began the beginning of October with Ben and Drey who are great listeners, are extremely accomplished with all types of needs and have been an amazing part of my team. Equally as important are the girls who are at the front desk. The girls are first to welcome you, accommodate your schedules while making appts, and answer any questions you may have with insurance etc. I highly recommend Modern PT and their entire team!!

Modern PT is excellent. They are very supportive and really do a good job with therapy. The whole staff is very kind. They take 1 hour and run on time which I really like. I appreciate their treatments. I feel much better after a hard surgery.magnam.

Answering Your Questions
What conditions can spinal and disc rehab help with?
Therapy is often used for stenosis, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and herniated discs. It is also used by those with chronic stiffness or previous injuries. Every person is distinct, which is why it is patient-specific. This leads to better and longer results.
Is treatment only effective for serious back problems?
None. Often, patients come in before the pain is extreme. Early treatment often prevents small issues from ballooning and decreases the chances of eventual damage. Even minimal pain is a sign that something is awry.
What happens during the first sessions?
Initial visits will often cover gradual movement and general strengthening. This is so that therapists can determine how your body reacts and can safely make changes. Progressing once strength is gained involves introducing more complex exercises or methods. This gradual approach makes progress consistent and not so overwhelming.
Can therapy help with nerve pain like sciatica?
Yes. When pressure is reduced on the offended disc and strength is gained in local muscles, treatment makes irritation diminish. Patients report reduced tingling, reduced burning, and increased comfort when walking, sitting, or sleeping. Mobility and stabilization complement each other.
Is spinal rehab safe for older adults?
Yes. Treatment is designed with comfort and safety. For older adults, treatment may include gentle strengthening, balance training, and stretching. This is always about maximizing movement and never about introducing harm. It is often found to keep older adults independent longer.
